This character is part of my long-term worldbuilding project The Unknown World of Ída, an alternate fantasy history inspired by real cultures, pseudo-history, and early nomadic civilizations.
The design represents an early Tengri noble warrior — a pseudo-historical horse archer inspired by Bronze Age and early medieval steppe cultures. My main influences include the Cimmerians, Xiongnu confederations, Siberian peoples, and early Eurasian nomadic traditions.
The goal was not to create a “cool” fantasy warrior, but a believable character grounded in cultural context, historical parallels, and evolving lore. The design went through multiple iterations, exploring both barbaric and noble interpretations — from fur and leather armor to early lamellar and bronze equipment.
My workflow combines historical research, intuitive design exploration, and digital painting techniques. I begin with loose silhouette sketches, develop layered clothing and armor systems, and finish with controlled color blending inspired by traditional gouache painting.
This piece is part of the broader visual exploration of the Tengri tribes and their role in the rise and fall of the Asheronian civilization within my fictional world.
