Atlantean army after the Battle of Lerna

Early Atlantean warriors during aftermath of the Battle of Lerna (from the story rise of the Atlanteans).

Illustration done for my fantasy world building artbook project set in ancient times.

I'm currently still working on the story Rise of the Atlanteans. As the work continue on the new character designs, illustrations for my world-building project, which I'm envisioning as an art book that will connect my fantasy stories, history, and lore of this world, I've come back to the designs for the Atlantean warriors.

This time I wanted to design more distinct characters - especially their armor. Design of the warriors is more grounded in ancient history with realistic armor. Fish-scale armor, helmets, weapons and shields should symbolize sea shells and various sea creatures. There was the idea to be inspired by Meso-American cultures such as the Aztecs, Mayans, or Incas. But I will save these ideas for the story Prince Tollan set in Toltec land.

Whenever I design characters, I always draw from real history and this is an example of how I combined the warriors of the bronze age, such as Sea Peoples, Mycenaeans and other ancient civilizations with touch of fantasy. All Atlantean designs are connected by a sea theme. You can see the references, inspirations, design process in my previous YT in the videos.
