Battle of Argos

The Battle of Argos took place at the end of the Bellovesus story, which is one of my oldest stories from my artbook The Unknown World of Ída.

Castor of Argos (so-called Bellovesus) and Memnon, the Atlantean admiral, fought each other in battle.
This final battle took place after Castor and his former fellow slaves escaped Atlantis and regained his rightful rule over Argos, where he had previously been treacherously driven into slavery.

After dealing with the traitors, he reorganized the Argean army into a fighting force with a focus on heavy infantry. He incorporated into his ranks former slaves and people from the land of Nahari who resided here as lion hunters and mercenaries.
The Atlanteans, resenting these events, sent an expeditionary army under the leadership of Memnon (who serves as Castor's antagonist in the story).
The Atlantean fleet landed at the southern tip of the Argean Kingdom, suitable for landing ships. Here, however, Castor was expecting them with his newly armed and trained army.

The Atlanteans relied on their invincible cavalry of lancers, but their onslaught was halted by a whirlwind of Nahari javelinas and rough, rocky terrain. Then the infantry met, and the Argives fought like lions with all the hatred of their former masters. The Atlanteans had nowhere to escape as their ships were set on fire during the fight. In a single combat, Castor killed Memnon and the Atlanteans finally surrendered.

I've got three new videos on youtube that flesh out the story of Belloves and the Battle of Argos (+ lot of world buidling episodes and character designs), so check them out if you're interested.
