So recetnly I accidentally stepped on Another snail in the grass, which made me feel very sad.
So I created ANOTHER quick sketch (as tribute) inspired by medieval art that often depicted knights fighting various creatures.
But why knights fought snails in medieval art?
Same history shiat from the last time:
I did studied history of art in High school and meaning of some supernatural events on medieval paintings and illustrations are often explained mostly as divine intervention but it can be interpreted in various ways...
One theory says these medieval knights fought snails because snails represented the Lombards, who had become widely despised lenders throughout Europe. Snail was an insult and, over time, it became a type of medieval meme detached from its original meaning.
Other theory says that snail fighting the armored knight is a reminder of the death.
Because same as snails, death is slow and inevitable.
Also knights fighting snails become popular in 12. - 13. century. Sometimes rabbits are portrayed jousting on snails (from 15th century) .
And who knows if some mad monk, who did illuminations of manuscripts was like:
You know what this book needs? Thats right, rabbit knights fighting snails!
