Marcus Valerius Corvus

Livius, in his history book, describes the clash between the Celts and the Romans during the early republic.
Since none of the armies wanted to do battle, the massive Celt challanged anyone who dares stand up against him.

Marcus Valerius offer him self in duel, killing the Celt with two blows when he dodged his shield and stabbed Celt in the crotch.
According to Livius, raven sat on Marcus helmet before the fight, which was a good sign. And then during the fight, raven attacked Celt several times. After the fight, raven just flew away.
Since then, Marcus Valerius was called Corvus (Raven).

I can proudly say that I donated this painting to a charity auction. :)
